Unlike the Swiss system, the French system provides instruction and education to children from age 3. This represents the first stage of formal education in the French system.

The kindergarten aims to help each child develop independence while acquiring essential knowledge and skills, gradually transitioning into a student role.

Our kindergarten comprises 3 years of schooling: first year (3-4 years old, PS: Petite Section in French), second year (4-5 years old, MS: Moyenne Section in French) and third year (5-6 years old, GS: Grande Section in French).

School schedule

The kindergarten week includes 26 hours of instruction, spread over 9 half-days: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday morning, Thursday and Friday.

Students have 36 weeks of instruction per year.

Facilities

In addition to their classroom, kindergarten students have access to:

  • a library,
  • three playgrounds,
  • an outdoor sports field,
  • a gymnasium,
  • two motor skills rooms,
  • art workshop rooms.

A dining room is reserved for them.

French–German curriculum

Recognized by the Zurich Department of Education, the French–German academic curriculum is available to all kindergarten students, from the youngest to the oldest levels.

The weekly program ensures parity of exposure: 13 hours in French (Mondays and Tuesdays) and 13 hours in German (Thursdays and Fridays), with alternating Wednesdays. Students are immersed in two distinct classrooms, where the environment is specifically designed to reflect the language of instruction.

Student progression

The school ensures regular monitoring of learning and provides support closely aligned with each child’s educational needs. In kindergarten, this monitoring is implemented through teacher-specific tools, such as the achievement portfolio, which is regularly shared with parents.

Sessions between teachers
and parents

As co-education is one of the school’s key principles, individual meetings are regularly organized to foster dialogue with parents. These meetings provide an opportunity to inform them of their children’s progress and any challenges they may be facing.
